2019 AccessTufts Benefits Information
If you are an active, regular employee at the University, you are eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, AD&D, long term disability insurance programs provided that you are:
- an exempt or non-exempt employee regularly scheduled to work 17.5 hours or more a week, with a minimum 90 days employment period; or
- a faculty member with at least a half time (as determined by the academic department), two semester appointment
With the exception of the Tufts University-Funded Retirement Plan 401(a) and the Self-Funded Retirement Plan 403(b), in order to participate, you must enroll in the University’s benefit plans within 31 days of the date when you are first eligible.
Your elections with respect to health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, AD&D, and Long Term Disability insurance benefits under the respective Plans will be effective on the date you are first eligible. Please note: beginning January 1, 2017 all New Hires will automatically be enrolled in Long Term Disability (LTD) at the 60% coverage rate. During the New Hire benefits enrollment period (first 31 days following hire date) they may choose to their decrease their LTD coverage level to 40% or waive the benefit.
If you do not enroll within 31 days of the date you are first eligible, you will not be able to enroll until the next open enrollment, unless you experience a Qualified Status Change event.
This Tip Sheet will walk you through the process of enrolling in Benefits on eServe. Note that enrollment is best completed from a computer or laptop rather than a cell phone and that you may have difficulty with a Mac/Safari browser. Try changing browsers if you are having technical issues. Please Note: As of June 3, 2019, the appearance of eServe has changed. The steps in this process will mostly remain the same, but your screen may not match these images. We are working on updating this document. If you are a post-doc, please read this page, as your benefits are different from that of faculty and staff. Generally, student workers are not eligible for benefits.
New Hire Benefits Orientations
Tufts Human Resources provides a benefits orientation to new staff hires and newly benefits-eligible employees. You will be scheduled for a benefits orientation through the HR employment department on your campus. Since faculty do not attend orientations, any questions regarding benefits selections should be made to a benefits representative on their respective campus.
