Primary Information

    You are eligible for Retiree Health under the following circumstances:
    >    You are at least age 60 and have 5 or more years of service with Tufts University; or
    >    Your age plus years of service with Tufts University equals at least 75 and
    >    You (and your eligible dependents) have been enrolled in a Tufts University health plan for the 12 months prior to your retirement date.

    Retiree Health Plan Options
     
    Tufts University offers you and your eligible dependents a choice of comprehensive health plan options upon retirement.
     
    WITHIN THREE (3) MONTHS OF YOUR RETIREMENT DATE, WE RECOMMEND THAT EMPLOYEES CONTACT THE HUMAN RESOURCES BENEFITS OFFICE TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT (no walkins) TO DISCUSS YOUR ELIGIBILITY, RETIREE HEALTH PLAN CHOICES AND PREMIUMS.
     
    The retiree health plan benefits available to eligible retirees and their eligible dependents are divided into two categories based on the retiring employee’s age.
     
    Coverage Under Age 65
    Retired employees who are under age 65 may elect, for themselves and their eligible dependents, health coverage that is the same health coverage they are enrolled in prior to retirement (although he/she may be eligible to change plans if he/she moves out of a plan’s service area or during Open Enrollment):

    Once the retiree reaches age 65, the participant is typically moved to an age 65 and over health plan.  A representative of Crosby Benefits Systems, (Tufts University Retiree Health Plan third-party Administrator) will contact participants three months prior to discuss these options.  However, if the retiree does not respond or choose another valid plan for over 65, coverage will terminate.
     
    Coverage at Age 65 and Over
    Retired employees who are age 65 and over may elect, for themselves and their eligible dependents, any one of the health plans Tufts University offers to individual who are eligible for Medicare coverage:
     All eligible retirees or dependents over age 65 must enroll in Medicare Part B coverage in order to enroll in a Tufts University sponsored post-retirement medical plan.

    Retiree Dental Plan
     
    We are happy to be offering retiree dental coverage through Delta Dental. Please review the description of benefits and costs before making your decision. Coverage will be provided at 100% for preventive treatment, 75% for basic care and 50% for major services. The annual maximum is $1,000. You can roll over a portion of your unused spending to increase your maximum benefit limit next year and beyond. Please review the Delta Dental Rollover Max brochure for full details.
     
    Important Notes:
    1. To elect coverage for you and your dependent(s) you may elect two person (coverage for two) or family coverage.
    2. You will be direct-billed for the dental coverage by CROSBY BENEFITS SYSTEMS, INC.
    3. Once enrolled in the dental plan you will receive a new identification card from Delta Dental.
      
    Eligibility:
     
    You are eligible to participate in the Retiree Health Insurance Plan if at retirement you were covered by the employee Health Plan for at least 12 months immediately preceding your retirement and you are at least age 60 and have at least 5 years of eligible service, or your age plus years of eligible service with the University equals at least 75. Your Spouse and eligible family members are eligible for the Retiree Health Insurance Plan if he/she or they are covered under a Tufts University Health Plan for the 12 months immediately preceding your retirement. Please refer to the Summary Plan Description for retired employees for further information regarding Retiree Health Insurance Plan coverage and eligibility rules.
     
    If you are eligible for the Retiree Health Plan, you may elect to purchase dental coverage for yourself and eligible family members through the Retiree Dental Plan. Please refer to the Retiree Summary Plan Description for further information regarding Retiree Dental Plan coverage.
