Response

Primary Information

All Teaching Assistants and Research Assistants are payroll positions because they perform a service to the university.  These students, coded in payroll as 'contract students', are paid semi-monthly.  They are not required to report hours to payroll.

TAs and RAs are paid differently that if someone was being paid via a scholarship, which some term stipend.  These stipends are paid via Accounts Payable on a check voucher form.  A non-payroll stipend is generally described as an allowance for payment to an individual for their attendance or participation in a program or study.
