Commuter Benefit Program
SPECIAL NOTE: This information applies to the Commuter Benefit Program for 2016, administered by Crosby Benefits. To sign up for commuter benefits for 2017 you have to wait until November 5-December 4th. The EBPA website will open up a portal where constituents can go in and sign up for next year's commuter FSA card. Please see the Knowledge Article for EBPA Commuter Benefits for more information.
Train, bus, subway, vanpool, parking at the train station – however employees ride, the Commuter Benefits Program (sponsored by Tufts University and administered by Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc.) provides the ability to pay for eligible commuting costs through automatic, pre-tax payroll deductions. All it takes is a quick online order to get a pass “recharged” or delivered to the home every month.
Boston campus employees (only) receive a 25% discount towards the purchase of bus, train, commuter rail, or commuter boat MBTA passes (up to $40 per month). This discount is due to the City of Boston parking space restriction and to promote utilizing public transportation. The City of Boston "highly encourages/mandates" that there is demonstrated compliance (i.e. offering a subsidy) to provide alternate commuting forms of transportation. To create parity when the SMFA was added, the subsidy was extended as a “Boston” location. The subsidy for Boston employees is applied for the payroll deduction, so you will not see it when you are signing up for the benefit. The payroll deduction will occur the second payroll of the month if you are paid on a semi-monthly basis or the third paycheck of the month if you are paid weekly.

- Parking Pre-Tax Limit for 2016 is $255 per month

PLEASE NOTE - You must enroll by the 4th day (at 11:59 p.m.) of the month prior to the month you want to start receiving your pass. For example, you must enroll by April 4th to receive a pass for May. Enrollment must be online or over phone but this cannot be done until the Benefits Office sends the list of current employees to Crosby every Tuesday. For new hires or newly benefits eligible: if you were hired or became newly benefits eligible after the 20th of the month, you may not be able to enroll by the next cutoff period. Deductions for this benefit are taken from the 3rd paycheck for Weekly employees and the 1st Paycheck for Semi monthly employees. Passes are mailed between the 18th and 25th of the month. It takes Crosby at least 48 hours for their information to be uploaded into the vendor system.
